About Frost Farms
The Frost Farms Story…So Far
Plant-entrepreneur turns her vision into a thriving local business – here’s her backstory:

Boothbay, Maine, native, Melissa Frost (affectionately known as Frosty) has had a passion for plants, beautifully landscaped gardens, and all things nature for as long as she can remember.

Frosty and Rip hanging out in the snowAfter graduating from Maine Maritime Academy with a degree in International Business and Logistics Frosty found herself on Mount Desert Island working as a landscaping crew member. She simply couldn’t stay away from working with plants. She also loved the island, so it was inevitable that she stayed.

After 8 years of hands-on learning and building relationships, she began to recognize a local need for a premium garden retail center that also offered custom landscape and growing services. She decided to merge her passion for plants with her business acumen and the rest is history. She bought land in Town Hill, Maine, and planted her Frost Farms roots. In the Spring of 2016, Frosty celebrated her first full – and successful – season as Owner and Founder of Frost Farms.

She credits this success to the strong working relationships with local contractors, architects, fellow landscapers and gardeners, and both year-round and summer guests because it’s always about the community when it comes to Frost Farms.

While she loves designing colorful landscapes and assisting guests with plant needs, her favorite part of the business is the human connection. From the camaraderie with her staff to the exhilaration of helping customers create their dream landscapes, each and every day for Frosty is engaging, inspiring, and rewarding.

As Frosty looks ahead and continues to plan for the growth of Frost Farms, she hopes to scale the eCommerce side of the business for year-round shopping both on the Island and beyond. She wants to share the Frost Farms plant passion with everyone!

When Frosty isn’t at the farm, you will find her cooking, sipping martinis, or playing with her dog, Rip. You can see him on our Instagram feed if you need a dose of handsomeness, along with tips from Frosty, the latest plant inventory at Frost Farms, and garden inspiration galore.
